Night of Twinkling Lights

On the evening of Friday 31st May, Coverack Space 2000 hosted a “Night of Twinkling Lights” on Coverack beach. People bought candle bags with artificial tea lights inside and then took them onto the beach where they chose where to place their candle bag. Some people wrote messages on their bags, others simply placed them. As the evening progressed the Twinkling Lights were left to shine.

Thank you to those who helped out: including The Old Mill Shop for selling the tea lights and helping with the clearing up at the end. Those who couldn’t attend could watch the lights on The Bay Hotel webcam, so people all across the world could enjoying the beautiful view of the evening.

We were very lucky with the weather, the event was planned for a low tide but a beautiful evening was a real bonus. Over 100 bags twinkled until late into the night. The bags were collected up just after 10:30pm so we didn’t leave litter on the beach. The event raised just over £300 for CS2000 and those who took part really enjoyed a beautiful evening with a lovely atmosphere, celebrating Coverack’s beauty in a simple and effective way. We are very lucky in Coverack that the view from the road down onto the beach is always stunning, but the overall effect of so many glowing candles on the beach at night was really stunning.

Coverack Space 2000 will use the money for a range of community activities, we have recently made a £1000 donation to Coverack School to help them purchase iPads and we will be paying for the whole school to go on a trip to The Minack Theatre later this term. CS2000 continue to run events and activities in the village right through the year, as well as supporting Coverack businesses and charities through the “Coverack Village, Cornwall” website, Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Here are just a few photos from the evening:

Due to the success of this event and popular demand, we are hoping to run another Night of Twinkling Nights in August. You can follow our website and Facebook page to stay updated.
