‘Coverack Christmas Tree Night’ marks the start of the Christmas lights in Coverack village,
this year, Saturday 9 th December saw Coverack Christmas Lights ‘switch on’. Coverack School
children processed down the hill with handmade lanterns, thanks to Helen Martin, and
Coverack Space 2000 for maintaining the lanterns and organising the procession. The
children then went onto the stage to sing festive songs to the crowd, accompanied by staff
from Coverack School.
Once the children had finished singing the Christmas Tree lights were switched on by Gina
House, who has supported Coverack Christmas Lights by fund raising for many years, when
she owned the Bay Hotel.
Hugh Richards, Chairman of the Christmas Tree Committee, thanked all those who
attended and those who work so hard in the village to put on such an impressive display of
lights. And particular thanks to the local businesses of The Bay Hotel, The Lifeboat House
and The Paris and for their continued support with fund raising throughout the year. After
the Tree Lights were switched on, Father Christmas arrived, wishing everyone a Happy
Christmas, and giving a present to every child.
Illumination Brass Band, played Christmas Carols, adding to the festive atmosphere and a
team of volunteers worked hard providing hot beef sandwiches and hot dogs, selling raffle
tickets, and collecting funds for the Christmas Lights. The large Christmas tree was kindly
donated to Coverack Village by Michael Tylor.
The evening closed after the raffle was drawn with the star prize of two nights at the Bay
Hotel and many other prizes donated by businesses and individuals.
For a small village Coverack’s Christmas lights are an impressive display and the team of
volunteers who put them up have worked hard, upgrading, and maintaining the features
throughout the year. Thanks to everyone’s hard work but particular thanks to Terry
Thompson for coordinating. Coverack Christmas lights once again looking stunning.
All donations are very much appreciated and go towards the annual upkeep of Coverack
Christmas lights as well as supporting children in the area and providing a gift on the night
for every child.
Coverack Lights are turned on every evening from 4:30pm right through until Twelfth Night,
if you are visiting, there are donation posts, one situated at North Corner car Park and the
other, just before Coverack Village Stores, with funds going to the upkeep of Coverack’s
beautiful lights. Please donate and help us to continue this beautiful tradition.
