Coverack Christmas Lights.
Coverack Village Christmas Tree Night 2022.
Saturday 10th December saw Coverack Christmas Lights ‘switch on’. The traditional ‘Coverack Christmas Tree Night’ marks the start of the Christmas lights in Coverack village. Children processed down the hill with handmade lanterns and stopped to sing ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ outside Tricia Bruce’s house as she was unable to join us outside, but she waved from her window. Coverack School children went onto the stage to sing festive songs to the crowd, with much enthusiasm!
Once the children had finished singing the Christmas Tree lights were switched on by a group of ladies who have worked hard for many years on Christmas Tree Night in the marquee serving food. Verna Tripconey, Ann Richards, Georgia Roskilly, Wendy Watters, and Hilary Nias have all assisted at many Christmas Tree Night ‘light switch ons’ and this year, as they handed over their role, they jointly turned on the Coverack Christmas Tree Lights.
Hugh Richards, Chairman of the Christmas Tree Committee, thanked all those who attended and those who work so hard in the village to put on such an impressive display of lights. And particular thanks to the local businesses of The Lifeboat House, The Paris, and The Bay Hotel for their continued support with fundraising. After the Tree Lights were on, Father Christmas arrived, wishing everyone a Happy Christmas, and giving a present to every child.
The Illumination Brass Band played Christmas Carols, adding to the festive atmosphere and a team of volunteers worked hard providing hot beef sandwiches and hot dogs, selling raffle tickets, and collecting funds for the Christmas Lights. The large Christmas tree was kindly donated to Coverack Village by Michael Tylor.
For a small village, the Coverack Christmas lights are an impressive display and the team of volunteers who put them up have worked hard, upgrading, and maintaining them for many weeks. Thanks to everyone’s hard work but particular thanks to Terry Thompson for coordinating. Coverack Christmas lights once again look stunning.
Thanks to all those who supported on the evening donating, buying raffle tickets, and enjoying a lovely community atmosphere. All support is very much appreciated and goes towards the annual upkeep of Coverack Christmas lights as well as supporting children in the area and providing a gift on the night for every child.
Coverack Lights will shine every night until Twelfth Night, if you are visiting, there are donation posts, one situated at North Corner car Park and the other just before Coverack Village Stores with funds going to the upkeep of these beautiful lights.
