At this time of year when there are lots of Firework displays hosted by big groups and towns with financial backing, the community group Coverack Space 2000 organises an annual Firework display in Coverack village. CS2000 bankroll this community event, purchasing the fireworks and insurance, we then aim to raise enough money to cover the costs so that we can run the event another year. We needed to raise almost £2500 to achieve this, for a small village this is a lot to find and we are grateful of all support.
The Bay Hotel were kind enough to let us use their lawn for the refreshments marquee which not only provided tasty BBQ, hot drinks and homemade cakes but those attending also had a lovely view of the fireworks set off from the harbour.
Particular thanks to all the local businesses that donated towards the cost of the Fireworks: The Bay Hotel, The Paris, Roskilly’s, Heath Farm, Fernleigh B&B and also thanks to Porthgwara Nursing Home and Mustard Financial who make regular donations to CS2000
A number of local businesses donated in a practical way including Little Trevothen Caravan Park, Archie’s Loft, The Lifeboat House, Coverack Village Stores, The Old Mill Shop, Harbour Lights, Lizard Computing, Cornish Pisky Pals and Coverack School PTFA. We appreciate all the donations including from those who attended and supported the event by buying refreshments, glow sticks, raffle tickets and putting money in the buckets. If you missed our collection buckets, you can make a Paypal donation here.
Without a massive team of helpers, Coverack’s Bonfire Night celebrations wouldn’t run, these jobs included: cleaning the BBQ & scraping seaweed off the steps to the beach, putting up the marquee, building a Bonfire on the beach, a team of helpers in the refreshments marquee, parking marshals, counting money and clearing up afterwards, to name a few. Without this help this event wouldn’t run.
Trevor Roberts is in charge of the Firework Team and has a number of helpers who set the Fireworks off from the harbour – the team are all local volunteers. St Keverne Fire brigade attend in case of any incident and we really appreciate this support. They also extinguish the Bonfire at the end of the evening making sure it is left safe.
Firework Night in Coverack is a real community effort that leads to so many people having a great time, thanks to everyone who helped and supported. The evening was spectacular; Fireworks across the water really do look good! Currently we have just managed to cover the costs of insurance and fireworks, any further donations will go towards CS2000 community group so that we can continue running events in Coverack.
If you attended and have any photos that you are happy for us to share please post them on Coverack Village Cornwall Facebook or Instagram pages, we would love to see them!
Thank you Martin Stroud for these lovely photos.
